SMTA offers a wide variety of performance opportunities for you and your students. There are opportunities available to all ages, abilities, instruments, and levels.

 

October Festival

Chair: GraceANN Cummings

Annual event celebrating live performance as a dynamic exchange between performer and audience. Students perform and present commentary/multi-media enhancements to their listeners.

Traditional In-Person Recitals

Chair: Julie C. Ives

SMTA offers in-person recital programs to provide valuable performance opportuntities for well-prepared students of SMTA member-teachers of all instruments.

Online Student Recitals

Chairs: C.R. Ryan Worswick, Mengyiyi Chen

Online performances on Zoom, open to students of SMTA teachers on all instruments. The recitals are inclusive, accessible performance opportunities for students of all ages.

Jazz, Rags, and Blues Festival

Chair: Josie Zocco

Celebrate and discover the diverse sub-genres of jazz. A non-competitive recital setting where students are encouraged to provide short oral descriptions of each work’s historical significance prior to performance. All are welcome.

Piano Masterclass Series

Chair: Michelle Huang, NCTM

Provides students with the opportunity to be coached by a highly qualified visiting master teacher.

Marsha Wright Sonatina Festival

Chairs: Ondine de Mer, Tom Lee

Annual celebration of the Sonatina genre. Students of all ages perform sonatinas of all types: solo, duos, and ensembles. Perform in a less formal setting for the entire community.

Adult Student Soirees

Chair: Karin A. McCullough, NCTM

The perfect opportunity for adult students to particpate with other adults learning to play an instrument. Fun supportive events where all levels and instruments are welcome. Performances are followed by social conversation. Available to all SMTA-member teacher students.

Volunteer-based series of concerts performed for free in a public apce to share the legacy of J.S. Bach and the legacy he created. SMTA invites you to share in the celebration with your own performance of any choice of classical music from Bach to current repertoire. All levels and instruments welcome.
